JOURNEYMAN/CARPENTER

Skills and Responsibilities

  • Read and comprehend work orders to determine stages and types of carpentry projects assigned.

  • Go through blueprints and drawings to determine project layouts and dimensions.

  • Install materials, structural elements, fixtures, etc., per instructions provided and ensure that all frameworks are properly installed.

  • Measure, cut and shape wood, plastic and fiberglass according to provided instructions and construct frameworks such as wall studs and doorframes.

  • Repair and maintain structures made out of wood including windows, frames and floorings.

  • Inspect buildings and wooden structures to determine need for additions and repair and communicate information to the lead carpenter.

  • Repair weather stripping and handle building interior and exterior maintenance work.

  • Put up siding and drywall and ensure that scaffolding is properly erected and safely in place.

  • Use a variety of hand and power tools to cut and shape wood and fiberglass in addition to properly placing them in desired areas.

  • Build countertops and handle cabinet and furniture fabrication duties, along with installing metal doors and setting jambs.

  • Perform interior renovations by performing repair and maintenance work on furniture and wooden framework.


CARPENTER APPRENTICE

Skills and Responsibilities

  • Take measurements and calculations to determine dimensions and needed materials

  • Erect and dismantle restricted height scaffolding and carryout levelling operations

  • Use a variety of carpentry tools such as circular and drive saws, hammers, and chisels

  • Clear work areas to ensure that no hazardous materials are present and that sites are ready

LABORER

Skills and Responsibilities

  • Prepare sites to ensure maximum optimization of construction work procedures

  • Clean debris, trash and hazardous materials from construction sites

  • Dig trenches and pour concrete as instructed

  • Assist in installing sewerage pipes and drains

  • Operate forklifts to transport materials and equipment from one place to another on a construction site

  • Erect temporary structures and scaffolding

  • Place traffic signs to warn traffic of construction in process

  • Clean and maintain construction equipment appropriately

  • Align structural components according to blue prints

  • Perform roadside maintenance tasks such as trimming trees and clearing shrubs

  • Load and unload equipment from trucks

  • Drive trucks carrying materials and equipment from warehouse to sites

  • Fill potholes to facilitate the construction process

  • Ensure that all work is being done in compliance with the company’s protocols

  • Train apprentices and new hires in construction labor work

  • Use hand tools to cut and shape material as per instructions

PAINTER

Skills and Responsibilities

  • Apply paint, vinyl and wallpaper, including special papers and fabrics to walls, furniture, and structures

  • Examine and maintain painted exterior and interior painted surfaces, trimming and fixtures

  • Prepare surfaces and apply paints, stains, shading stains, and clear finishes

  • Remove previous paint by means of sandblasting, scraping, sanding, hydro-blasting and steam-cleaning

  • Inspect and refurbish wall surfaces using appropriate materials

  • Determine, cut and apply wallpaper or fabric to walls

  • Read blueprints and drawings of the premise for the execution of painting job

  • Order paint supplies and materials

  • Apply wood finishing by suitably preparing surface

  • Cover interior walls and ceilings with wallpaper or fabrics

  • Operate and maintain high pressure, low volume spray machines

  • Submit finished work orders to supervisor

  • Provide assistance to semi-skilled or unskilled workers

  • Operate and maintain various power and manual tools

  • Maintain logs of Volatile Organic Compound and spray volume

  • Follow established protection procedures

  • Clean up job site after work and return equipment and tools

  • Maintain a clean work environment

COMMERCIAL DRIVER

Skills and Responsibilities

  • Obtain delivery orders from company and assist in loading items onto delivery trucks

  • Ensure that all items are neatly and safely stacked inside the truck and that any that are marked fragile are dealt with accordingly

  • Review delivery instructions prior to starting out to prepare for the journey

  • Chart out best possible routes keeping traffic and distances in mind

  • Use maps and GPS to determine unfamiliar routes

  • Ensure that any delays due to traffic or other unforeseen circumstances are relayed to the office immediately

  • Drive commercial trucks by following traffic rules and company regulations

  • Ensure the safety of items on board by checking on them during unusual circumstances such as inconsistent roads

  • Deliver items to customers’ doorsteps and ask them to verify deliveries

  • Take customers’ signatures on delivery orders and communicate time and name of person who received the delivery

  • Verify that all items listed on a daily work order have been delivered

  • Provide customers with information of safe handling of delivered products

  • Perform preventative and regular maintenance on trucks to minimize breakdowns on the roads

  • Ensure interior and exterior cleanliness of the truck

  • Make sure that delivery information is logged properly in the company database

  • Relay any feedback or complaints received from customers to the company
